IBM plans to replace jobs with AI
IBM plans to slow hiring in roles vulnerable to AI, potentially affecting 7,800 jobs, while still recruiting for customer-facing and tech positions.

IBM CEO Arvind Krishna has announced that the company will pause or slow hiring for roles that could be replaced by AI in the coming years. Back-office positions and departments such as HR, which make up around 26,000 positions in IBM’s workforce, could see up to 30% of jobs replaced by AI and automation over a five-year period, potentially affecting around 7,800 human jobs. However, IBM is still hiring for customer-facing and software development roles.
